Postdoc in Chemistry Receives Humboldt Foundation Fellowship

There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Hooray to Inga Ulusoy, a postdoc in Professor Rigoberto Hernandez's lab, for receiving the Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

The fellowship allows young scientists from Germany the opportunity to work abroad.

Ulusoy is a theoretical chemist who studies the dynamics of reactions of atoms, molecules, radicals and ions, such asthose of nitrogen and oxygen, in the upper atmosphere under extreme conditions, such as extremely high temperatures or under collisions at supersonic speeds.

“This kind of research is important for understanding the complex dynamics of air flow around vehicles traveling at supersonic speeds. Aircrafts which travel at such speeds experience severe heating. The simulations will aid the design of such vehicles,” explained Ulusoy.
