There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

"It seems to be the case that a great many players of Cow Clicker did understand that it was meant as a satire, and there are a great many players who came to it via channels that wouldn't necessarily have revealed that it was meant as satire," says Ian Bogost, professor in the School of Media, Literature, and Communication, discussing his popular game creation. "For that second class of player, is it right for us to say, well, they were duped, they were such simpletons that they couldn't understand what was going on? Not exactly, it is rather that they were seeing the work from a perspective so different from the way that I had thought that people would see it that they surprised themselves and me equally."
