Military Open Source Software (Mil-OSS) holds its fourth working group in Washington, D.C., from Oct. 15 to Oct. 17.

Consisting of three tracks, or "Areas," Mil-OSS offers content such as "Navigating laws and regulations on OSS," "Geo Processing w/ OpenGeo," "Running an Open Source Software Project" and "DHS HOST Cyber Security."

Dawn Meyerriecks, assistant director for National Intelligence for Acquisition, Technology & Facilities, will deliver Monday's opening keynote address. Arthur Herman, author of "Freedom's Forge," is scheduled to deliver the lunch keynote.

Mil-OSS is a grass-roots organization that connects and empowers an active community of both civilian and military developers using, improving, and releasing open source software (OSS) and hardware across the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Most members of Mil-OSS work with the DoD either directly or as contractors, and see their work in open source DoD projects as support for our country’s Warfighters. OSS allows the DoD to improve software security, control development costs and increase innovation—all of which benefit the warfighter.
