The 1996 Centennial Olympic Games left an indelible mark on the Georgia Tech community, which remains visible after 16 years.

In honor of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the Georgia Tech Archives will showcase 1996 Olympic artifacts in an exhibit titled “Atlanta’s Olympics: Georgia Tech, Home of the Olympic Village.”

“This will give folks a general idea of how the Tech campus was used as the Olympic Village and venue site,” said Kirk Henderson, Georgia Tech records manager and curator of the exhibit.

The exhibit opens July 27 in the third floor gallery of the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons and closes Sept. 2. The following artifacts will be on display:

  • The Olympic torch
  • The official report of the centennial games (three volumes)
  • Commemorative editions of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games Programs
  • Volunteer polo shirt and hat with Olympic logos and graphics
  • Olympic games security officer hat
  • Olympic Village backpack
  • GT Alumni Association license plates featuring “Home of the 1996 Olympic Village”
  • Olympic lunch boxes and other official souvenirs.
