Brian Stone Jr., has found that Louisville’s urban heat island, the difference between city temperatures and surrounding rural areas, may be growing at one of the fastest rates in the country. “Dr. Stone’s message was that Louisville, more than most other cities in the country, needs to start now to address the serious threat of urban heat islands by increasing our inadequate tree canopy,” Schneider told the commission.
