The Georgia Tech community is invited to an IPaT Townhall for Future Media focused on our FY13 strategy to amplify GT's leadership in transformational and translational research.  The agenda will include panel presentations by faculty on topics that have been identified during this process.

2:30    BIG Social Computing:
Can social computing get any bigger?  Seriously, what is the intersection between the growing interest in "big data" and "social computing"?  How do people move from data to insight to action.  In a crowded and noisy field, where can GT shine?
Panelists: Eric Gilbert, Lora Weiss, Jacob Eisenstein

2:50    Future of Sports Entertainment:.
One of our newest partners is ESPN.  What is GT's research agenda in the future of interactive engagement with sports entertainment?
Panelists: John Stasko, Shane Owens, Leanne West

3:10    Future Media, Journalism and the Public Square
What does it mean for the public square to move to Twitter and the blogosphere?  What are the opportunities when stories break on Twitter and Facebook?  What is GT's role as researchers and members of local, national and global communities?
Panelists: Amy Bruckman, Irfan Essa

3:30    Community Computing meets Midtown Buzz:
What would it mean to create a living laboratory in our own Midtown neighborhood.  Can visions of collective, community-based action come together with interest in economic development and media innovation?  Both could be fueled by GT innovation and community engagement.
Panelists: Stephen Fleming, Keith Edwards, Chris LeDantec, Ron Hutchins, Beki Grinter

4:00    Interactive Narrative, Performance and Storytelling:
Panelists: Janet Murray, Ali Mazalek, Brian Magerko, Jason Freeman

The townhall will be immediately followed by the weekly IPaT networking reception (4-5:30pm) to facilitate continued discussion.  Both events will take place in the Technology Square Research Building (TSRB).
