Student volunteers needed for Library text messaging system test during finals week.

Full Summary:

The Library is test-driving a new text messaging system that will notify students who borrowed two and four hour

With final exams fast approaching, the Georgia Tech Library will test-drive a new text messaging system to alert students when high demand reserve items such as textbooks are overdue.

The Library text messaging alert system is designed to reach students directly and get textbooks and other high use course reserve materials to other students who need them. The test of this text messaging service will take place from April 23 – May 3, and at least 100 student volunteers are needed to conduct the text messaging system test.

“Finals is a busy time for everyone at Tech, especially the Library which is open 24 hours,” said Karen Glover, Circulation Services Librarian. “Checking out limited use items becomes problematic when students do not return them on time and others need them.”

Students who are interested in volunteering to be part of the test of the Library reserves text message alert system can sign up online at:

http://www.library.gatech.edu/services/textmessage.php

Volunteers will be asked to check out a two or four hour reserve item from the Library Service Desk. When an item is overdue, students will receive a text notification.

Regular text messaging rates apply.
