Boston on Unemployment Numbers

There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. "The unemployment rate went down from 8.3% to 8.2% but we only gained half as many jobs as we have gained over the last three months," said Thomas "Danny" Boston, professor in the School of Economics. "That could be due to a number of things. For example, it could be the fact that the increase in oil prices are now working their way through the economy, because when we look at the employment numbers, [they are] particularly down in retail."
