Congratulations to chemistry undergraduate degree candidate, Ms. Lauren Nichols!  She is the recipient of the 2012 National Science Foundation's Robert Noyce Impacting Metro Atlanta Science Teaching (I-MAST) Scholarship.

The IMAST Program is a collaborative effort between Georgia State University (GSU), Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) and four public school districts in the Metro Atlanta Area. The shared goal of the IMAST partnership is to recruit, prepare, and support highly qualified secondary science teachers who are committed to teaching science at a high need public school in the Metro Atlanta area upon graduation.

The crux of the IMAST Program is the Robert Noyce Scholarship which is offered to both undergraduate and graduate students:

  • Undergraduate Robert Noyce Scholars receive one year of funding for the senior year of their bachelor’s program ($12,000) and another year of funding while obtaining their Master of Arts in Teaching-Secondary Science ($12,000) for a total of $24,000.
  • Graduate Robert Noyce Scholars receive one year of funding while obtaining their Master of Arts in Teaching-Secondary Science ($12,000).
  • Noyce Scholars also receive professional development training designed to meet the needs of novice teachers, and travel stipends to attend professional conferences.
