HathiTrustLast year, the Authors Guild brought suit against the HathiTrust and several of its library members over the collection of digitized books that Hathi and it’s partners hold as a result of the Google Books project. In addition to the existence of the Google scans, the Authors Guild raised concerns about a pilot program involving “orphan works.”
For libraries watching this suit, it is very important to answer some key questions: what is the HathiTrust and what is it doing? What are its legal arguments? What are the prospects for the case against it?
