Georgia Techâs Study Abroad program has been growing in breadth of experiences offered and the student reception has been overwhelming. Currently, 38% of the undergraduate student community has an international experience while at Georgia Tech and the Office of International Educational (OIE) plans to increase that number to 50%. The OIE is the âgo-to placeâ for anyone interested in study abroad opportunities. Students can obtain information on Georgia Techâs 50+ summer and semester abroad programs, the International Plan, as well as information on the application and other procedures. Students interested in learning more specifics about study abroad programs should mark their calendar for Tuesday, October 28, and attend the 2008 Study & Work Abroad Fair in the Student Center Ballroom from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
According to Amy Henry, Executive Director of International Education, âThe study abroad programs offered by Georgia Tech really offer something for everyone. Students have many options to find the right âfitâ with their major and/or desired level of independence during the program. Students continue to take credits toward their major during the program and see the real-world applications of their learning. What better place to study logistics than in one of the biggest shipping ports in the world? Students gain this exposure in the Industrial Engineering program in Singapore and Beijing.â Among the other benefits, class sizes are smaller and the structure allows for more dynamic interaction between Georgia Tech students, the professor and the hosting students. âWe see a real global understanding and appreciation from students who participate. Not only do they learn about a different culture, but they are immersed into a different learning environment and gain interaction skills that serve them well as they enter the global economy.â
