Summary Sentence:

There are lots of benefits to visiting your academic advisor.

Full Summary:

It is hard to believe that the fall semester is nearing a close and, before we know it, students will be back from break and ready start spring semester. For now, most students are busy preparing for their upcoming final exams and thinking about the impact on their final grades. However, it is also a great time for students to think about scheduling a meeting with their academic advisor before the upcoming winter break and spring term begins.

It is hard to believe that the fall semester is nearing a close and, before we know it, students will be back from break and ready to start spring semester. For now, most students are busy preparing for their upcoming final exams and thinking about the impact on their final grades. However, it is also a great time for students to think about scheduling a meeting with their academic advisor before the upcoming winter break and spring term begins.

Assuming your student has successfully selected their spring semester classes during early registration (October 29 through November 11), there are many compelling reasons why your student should see his/her advisor.
1. Discuss how to pursue internships for the summer
2. Receive guidance on connecting with faculty for conducting research
3. Prepare for graduate school, medical school, business school and other postgraduate school
4. Of course, receive academic support to help improve your student's GPA

There are a few key timing issues of which students should be aware as they approach the spring semester.
1. Final grades will be posted on the student's OSCAR account after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2008. This is the week after the conclusion of final exams.
2. Spring classes begin January 5, 2009. Due to the winter break, Georgia Tech will be officially closed between December 25 and January 1. There will be no advisors on campus to assist students during this campus holiday. Late registration (phase II) for spring term begins on December 22 - leaving just a few days for students to contact their advisor if needed before the campus closes for winter break. Advisors will be back on campus Friday, January 2 to assist students before classes begin on Monday, January 5.
