Summary Sentence:

Tech families enjoy winter wonderland in Steamboat Springs, Colo

Full Summary:

For the past 30 years, Georgia Tech has headed to Colorado for the annual ski trip organized by the Campus Recreation Center (CRC). A perfect way to end the fall semester, skiers and snowboarders alike leave Atlanta's temperate climate for more traditional winter weather in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. While the trip has always been for the students, what makes this trip unlike any other is that anyone is able to come along - parents, friends, siblings, grandparents - are all invited! This inclusiveness makes for a great family vacation right before the holidays.

This year, two Georgia Tech dads joined us on the trip. Dan Carter and his son Cody are GT-Steamboat veterans. This year, Cody's sister, Jaime, was lucky enough to have the "boys" invite her along. Doug Hartline and his son, Chase, who started at Tech this past fall, also traveled with us. Doug heard about the ski trip at freshman orientation (FASET). He told his son that he would be glad to pay under one condition - dad gets to come along. The terms were agreeable to Chase and now the father-son duo look forward to many more skiing trips together.

In addition, we had a very special "alumnus" guest Joe Steed (COA, '74) who participated in the inaugural ski trip to Colorado back in the 70's. According to Joe, "This trip has come a long way since it began. Back then we only had nine students ... and that included students from Georgia State."

So, if you have visions of snow, epic downhill runs, and sleigh rides, join us for next year's trip! Registration for travel packages will begin in September 2009. Stay up-to-date by visiting our Web site at www.crc.gatech.edu/sps/skitrip. We hope to see you in Steamboat!
