There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Karen Harwell, Ph.D.
Director, Undergraduate Research
Is your student participating in undergraduate research? Do they need a part-time job as well? If so, perhaps your student should apply for the President's Undergraduate Research Award (PURA). PURA was established in 2002 to support students participating in research. Since its inception, more than 1,400 students have been awarded close to $2 million. Students are awarded either $1,500 for part-time work during one semester of the academic year or $1,000 to help offset expenses when invited to present their research at a professional conference. Awards may granted during any of the three academic terms; however, students are eligible for only one salary and one travel award per academic year.
Any undergraduate student in good standing at Georgia Tech is eligible to apply. Students simply create a project under the direction of a faculty mentor, write a proposal for their research, and have their faculty mentor submit a letter of recommendation. Awards are competitive, so students should work on their proposals early and make sure to include all expected information.
Even if they are not planning on applying for the award immediately, you should encourage your student to attend our upcoming information session on Thursday, February 12 from 4-5 p.m. in the Piedmont Room of the Student Center. This session will cover eligibility, proposal writing, and the application procedure. Students may wish to come with a draft proposal to obtain preliminary feedback.
Deadlines for 2009 are as follows: Summer 2009 - March 4th; Fall 2009 - May 18th.
