The Georgia Tech campus deadline for several nationally competitive scholarships is coming in September 2009. We encourage students interested in applying for these awards to use their time over the summer break to complete the required essay portion of the application. Rhodes Scholarship: Winners are awarded 2-3 years of study at Oxford. All majors can apply. Applicants must have U.S. citizenship with senior or graduate status and be 24 years of age or under, outstanding grades, and ability to demonstrate leadership. Campus deadline is September 10, 2009.

Marshall Scholarship: Winners are awarded 1 or 2-3 years of study at any university in the United Kingdom. All majors can apply. Applicants must have U.S. citizenship with senior status or be within 2 years of graduation, outstanding grades, and ability to demonstrate leadership. Campus deadline is September 10, 2009.

Churchill Scholarship: Winners are awarded 1 year of study at Cambridge University. Science, technology, engineering and math majors can apply. Applicants must have U.S. citizenship with senior status, outstanding grades, and ability to demonstrate leadership. Campus deadline is September 10, 2009.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship: Winners are awarded 2-3 years of study at Cambridge University. All majors can apply; U.S. citizens or international students may apply with senior or master’s status. Campus deadline is September 10, 2009.

Mitchell Scholarship: Winners are awarded 1 year of study at one of 9 universities in Ireland. All majors can apply. Applicants must have U.S. citizenship with senior status, outstanding grades, and ability to demonstrate leadership. Campus deadline is September 10, 2009.

Fulbright Scholarship: Winners are awarded 1 year of study in one of 140 countries in pursuit of international graduate study, research, or English teaching assistantships (ETAs). All majors can apply; applicants must have U.S. citizenship with senior, master’s or Ph.D. student status and demonstrate ambassador-like qualities. Campus deadline is September 18, 2009.

In addition, the Georgia Tech campus deadline for Goldwater, Truman, and Udall awards is January 11, 2010. In preparation of this deadline, interested students should file their intent to apply for these awards as noted below no later than November 15, 2009.

Goldwater Scholarship: Winners are awarded $7,500 plus tuition, fees, books, room, and board up to 2 years. Applicants should be of sophomore or junior status doing research in science, technology, engineering and math. Contact Dr. Jane Weyant, Jane.Weyant@coe.gatech.edu, for more information. For feedback specific to the required Goldwater essay, contact Dr. Karen Adams, Karen.Adams@provost.gatech.edu.

Truman Scholarship: Winners are awarded up to $30,000 in funding for graduate school. Applicants should be of junior status interested in public service. Contact Paul Hurst, Paul.Hurst@provost.gatech.edu, for more information, including writing requirements.

Udall Scholarship: Winners are awarded up to $5,000 for tuition, room and board, or other educational expenses. Applicants should be of sophomore or junior status and interested/active in environmental issues.
