The Department of Parking and Transportation at Georgia Tech provides convenient, safe and reliable service to all students. Whether your student wants to drive, bike, commute or use campus transit - day and night - we have a solution for them.
Campus Parking
All students, including freshmen, are invited to purchase parking permits for their cars, motorcycles or mopeds. By purchasing a permit, students may park in their assigned lots at any time (except for special events). Students may visit our offices in Tech Square (828 W. Peachtree St.) to purchase parking permits. All parking permits are paid through student bursar accounts.
In addition to parking in an assigned zone, all annual permit holders may park after-hours in non-residential areas. After-hours parking is allowed from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday and from 5:00 p.m. Friday to 8:00 a.m. Monday, excluding E45 and E81 (both must be vacated by 6:00 a.m.).
Campus Transit
The Tech Trolley and Stinger buses provide the Institute with reliable transportation on campus as well as the surrounding areas. The Tech Trolley serves the campus and provides service to the Midtown MARTA rail station and Publix grocery store at Spring Street and Peachtree Place. The Red, Blue and Green Stinger routes offer bus service to various stops on campus. All vehicles are lift-equipped. Boarding fees and IDs are not required to ride the transit system. Your student can also find arrival times for each bus at www.nextbus.com. Visit www.parking.gatech.edu for the current routes and schedules.
Late Night Transportation
The Stingerette Nighttime Shuttle provides after-hours transportation for students and employees, Monday through Sunday from 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. excluding Institute holidays. Safe Ride Home memberships can be purchased for students who need after-hours rides to the Home Park and Centennial Place communities. Call 404.385.RIDE(7433) or visit www.stingerette.com to request a ride. To use the Safe Ride Home membership, speak to a dispatcher during each call.
For the Disabled
Students with disabilities are required to display a state-issued disability placard or license plate and a Georgia Tech parking permit for disability parking. Parking is authorized in any disability space on campus with these credentials.
Stingerette Paratransit Service serves members of the Georgia Tech community who need transportation assistance on campus due to permanent or temporary mobility impairments. This service operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Authorization to use this service must be obtained from the Disability Services- ADAPTS office, located in the Student Services Building (404.894.2561).
Also, all Stinger buses and Tech Trolleys are lift equipped and benefit passengers in accordance with recommendations to the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Carpools
Carpooling offers a convenient way for students living more than three miles away from campus to commute with friends or classmates. Carpool captains will receive a discounted rate on their parking permit purchase and can invite other people into the carpool. Each carpool member is eligible for a FREE one-day parking pass each month. For an added benefit, visit www.logyourcommute.com/gatech to earn rewards for carpooling.
SmartPark
SmartPark offers flexibility for students who occasionally drive to campus. It is a pay-as-you-go program that costs $25 to join each year. The program allows parking in one of three campus lots-Technology Square Parking Deck (E81), Visitor Parking Area 3, and North Deck (W23) - from 5:30 a.m. to midnight daily. The daily rate is $5 per use and is automatically debited from each memberâs BuzzCard account. SmartPark permits expire July 31 of each year.
Zipcar
This car-sharing program provides members with vehicles on an hourly or daily basis. With cars conveniently located around campus, your student can rent a car for personal use. Gas, maintenance, insurance and designated campus parking are included in rental fees. Zipcar is open to students ages 18 and over and who meet membership requirements. Metro Transit and MARTA
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is a combined bus, rail and paratransit system serving Atlanta as well as Fulton and DeKalb Counties. It also operates direct rail service to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Students can purchase monthly unlimited MARTA passes from the Ferst Center Box Office in the Student Center at a discounted rate, making MARTA a convenient mode for commuters. The Georgia Tech campus is located near the Midtown and North Avenue rail stations on the Gold and Red Lines. The Tech Trolley provides direct service from campus to the Midtown Stationâs Peachtree Place entrance.
Off-campus Service
Many transit options offer off-campus service, including the Tech Trolley, which travels to and from the Midtown MARTA station (rapid transit) and Publix grocery store on Peachtree Place. The Weekend Grocery Shuttle provides service to Atlantic Stationâs Publix grocery store, and the Emory Shuttle runs a scheduled route from Georgia Tech to Emory Universityâs Woodruff Circle.
