The 14th annual Majors Fair, targeted to first- and second-year students, will be held on Thursday, October 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Student Center Ballroom. For those students who may be undecided about which major to choose or who are considering changing majors, the Majors Fair is a convenient way to explore the varied Tech majors. Occasionally even third-year students have questions about their major and can take advantage of the event to clarify specifics or explore requirements for a certificate program. More than 30 undergraduate majors at Georgia Tech, faculty, academic advisors, seniors in the major, and alums will be present to respond to student questions. Additionally, advisors for pre-health, pre-law and pre-teaching professions, as well as the study abroad programs, will be available to inform students about those career options.
The event is an excellent opportunity for students to practice informational interviewing in a low risk setting as they take advantage of the opportunity to interact with faculty, academic advisors, seniors, and alums. The Fair is a fine time to ask alums how they chose their major, likes and dislikes about their careers, and what advice they may be able to offer undergraduates.
If your son or daughter has questions about his or her major or is in the process of considering changing majors, encourage them to take advantage of the contacts and information that the Majors Fair offers students.
The staff of Career Services www.career.gatech.edu welcomes your studentâs questions and concerns about their major. Your student can schedule an appointment with Lanie Damon, Career Advisor, at 404.894.2553 or elaine.damon@success.gatech.edu.
