The Communication Center is holding a workshop for undergraduate students applying for a $1,000 scholarship awarded by the Georgia Tech Faculty Women’s Club. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.75 and a parent or guardian currently employed at Georgia Tech. The application deadline is March 1, 2012. For more information on the scholarship and to print an application, visit www.gtfwc.gatech.edu.

The scholarship application requires “a concise essay which describes the applicant's academic studies and plans, involvement in extra-curricular activities that contribute to the GT community and society, and reasons for financial assistance are also required as an attachment to the application.”

In this workshop, participants will learn to consider audience, clarity, organization, specificity, tone, voice and other rhetorical elements for writing an effective essay for this application. Participants in this workshop must qualify for, and must intend to submit an application for, the Georgia Tech Faculty Women’s Club scholarship. Registration in the workshop is limited to 25 students and is on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, please email commlab@gatech.edu.
