There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Dr. Joe Montoya (Professor, School of Biology) was the chief scientist on a research cruise that recently returned from the Gulf of Mexico. The aim of the cruise was to study how the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill is affecting the water column and bottom sediments of the Gulf of Mexico. The shipboard science party included researchers from Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, the University of California at Santa Barbara, the University of Mississippi, the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Maryland, and East Carolina University.
